Last night I upgraded my iOS, and dozens of other applications on my iPad. And as expected, all my apps got enhanced and data was automatically brought over. In the enterprise space, the users question the IT department- why can’t the Enterprise OS and Applications be updated so easily. Agreed that the Apps are much more complex and tailored for each organization compared to Consumer-based apps, however the Enterprise Apps can learn about the user experience from the consumer-based Apps such as: Microsoft, Apple, Google, Facebook, Amazon, etc.
You do notice some of the Enterprise Applications catching up with rich and modern apps in Mobility and Social space. However, when it comes to Upgrading your OS or Apps, the methodology still has a lot of scope for improvement.
While updating with zero manual intervention is ambitious, I wanted to share about the Innovation done by the #JDE Development at Oracle and L&T Infotech, to make this journey faster, better and cheaper.
#JDE is one of the #Oracle product with a very loyal customer base. Customers love the flexibility, scalability, wide and deep functionality, cutting edge modern technology – all topped with ease-of-use.
With a defined road map up to 2032, many customers continue to upgrade and expand the #JDE footprint. Oracle releases every major version, every 3 years, while a minor version every year. Most of the customers have some level of customizations, so they either leap frog releases, defer until they can build a business case for upgrade, or some laggards upgrade when their current release runs out of support.
#Oracle has simplified the upgrade from #E1 9.2 release onwards, where a customer does not need to retrofit custom objects, if there are no enhancements in the new version. This is called as Simplified Upgrade! At LTI we have taken a major leap on this, and created a solution to automatically retrofit the customization for objects which are enhanced, as well called RetroSmart. This smart way of retrofitting has helped our customers to save thousands of hours and millions of dollars on their Upgrade Projects.
