the client |
| Our client is a Defence organization. |
|
|
the challenge |
| The client workshop needed to automate key manual processes of its core departments.
At the time, the manual workflow between departments resulted in disparate views of the production,
supply and other sub-systems. This made it particularly difficult to track jobs and processes in real
time. Further, standalone systems and databases led to redundant data, confusion and lack of
communication between different departments. Consequently, the organization required a system that
could track purchases, inventories and overall progress of work. |

the solution |
|
L&T Infotech developed a solution that provided a single view of the whole system and integrated key
department processes. The solution facilitated planning and program management that minimized
production lead and delivery time. Initially, L&T Infotech collected data from these departments to
create an integrated database and generate accurate status reports. The solution also has security
provisions allowing only authorized access. As a result, the reporting feature of the solution can
only be accessed and updated by authorized personnel, thereby safeguarding the network. Another
feature of the solution is its ease of operation and customizability – different applications can be
added, the look and feel can be changes etc.

highlights |
|
While the solution not only improved client productivity and efficiency, it also created a single integrated
system with access to systems on a need-to-know basis. The client could also benefit from unlimited user
licenses as the whole solution was built using open source technology.

|
the benefits |
|
The most immediate benefit of the solution was better planning and sound program management by
eliminating redundancies. With a single view solution, the client had increased real time visibility
of data thus reducing delivery time and keeping track of the production process. A single database
also meant significant improvement in data maintenance and overall productivity. Additionally, the
defence organization would also benefit from enhanced security through restricted access protocols,
leading to a safer environment.
