board, he is
involved in policies
and strategy
formulation,
projecting L&T's
capabilities to

stakeholders,

and society, liaison
with Government
agencies at
Ministerial level
for policies
affecting L&T. He is
a member of the
Investors' Grievance
Committee.
He is in-charge of
the company's
Electrical &
Electronics
Division, which has
six Businesses
namely Electrical
Standard Products
(ESP), Electrical
Systems & Equipment
(ESE), Petroleum
Dispensing Pumps (PDP),
Metering &
Protection Systems
(MPS), Medical
Equipment & Systems
(MED), and Control &
Automation (C&A).
These business units
are located in
different locations
like Mumbai, Mysore,
Faridabad,
Ahmednagar,
Coimbatore and Wuxi
(China).
As the head of the
Electrical &
Electronics
Division, he is
involved in strategy
formulation and
ensuring
implementation of
periodic plans. He
is presently
steering the
Division to a high
growth path with an
emphasis on exports,
performance
excellence, HR
initiatives & IT
strategy. For most
of the businesses,
leadership position
& high Brand Equity
have been created in
the domestic market
where he has played
& continues to play
a significant role.
He is constantly
focused on process
improvement for
improving the
productivity of all
operations in
Electrical &
Electronics
Division. As a part
of the Process
Improvement, on the
foundation of TQM,
he has implemented
many path-breaking
ideas. The SAP R3
Enterprise Resource
Planning
Implementation,
which he
spearheaded, became
a reference for SAP
Worldwide in
1999-2000. His role
in popularizing
Value Engineering,
as a cost saving
tool, is noteworthy.
He has also laid
emphasis on
statistical process
control leading to
Six Sigma practices
as a mean to reduce
errors and rework.
Under him the
business units have
won various
recognition and
awards, latest one,
won by the ESP
business group, is
the GOLD award at
the India
Manufacturing
Excellence Award (IMEA)
2005, instituted by
the international
consulting company
Frost and Sullivan
in the category for
large enterprises.
This award captures
excellence and
reflects progress
towards flexibility
and leanness. He is
a pioneer in
bringing in new
concepts in L&T like
EVA based
performance
evaluation of the
business and
variable
compensation of the
employees, Balanced
Scorecard, Framework
for Linking
Appraisal with
Incentive & rewards
(FAIR), Performance
Acceleration in
Changed Environment
(PACE) etc and
implementing them in
his division. PACE
received The Golden
Peacock Innovation
Award in 2005.
Implementation of
lean manufacturing
in all manufacturing
units under him is
another feather on
his cap. He is
continuously working
towards making the
manufacturing
facilities under him
to be world class.
He is focused
towards new product
developments and
intellectual
property. A world
class New Product
Development process
for all the
businesses under him
is in place. He
believes sustainable
growth can be
achieved only if
intellectual
property is
continuously built.
Number of patents
filed, design
registrations
applied have
multiplied under his
stewardship.
Mr. Mukhija also
heads the entire
domestic marketing
network of L&T. This
responsibility
entails reporting of
all regional and
branch offices of
L&T all over India
to him. He is the
in-charge of the
Social
Responsibilities
activities of L&T.
The entire
governance of Powai
Works of L&T reports
to him. He is the
Chairman of Larsen &
Toubro (Wuxi)
Electric Co. Ltd.,
China. He is also
the member of the
board of L&T
Infotech Limited.
He is an Electrical
Engineering Graduate
of 1965 from IIT
Kharagpur with
Honours from R.K.
Hall of residence
where he was given
Freedom of Hall. He
was also the
President of
Electrical
Engineering Society
at the Institute.
After graduation he
joined L&T in Delhi
& worked in L&T's
offices at Lucknow,
Calcutta & Mumbai.
He has been exposed
to Marketing,
Manufacturing, R&D
and all Senior
Management functions
and has an
outstanding
performance record
throughout his
career. His long
stint in Marketing
has made him almost
a perfect Customer
Oriented Leader. He
was an active member
of the TQM Task
Force and led the
Change Management
Process effectively.
He strongly believes
that we need to
continuously
restructure &
upgrade the skills
of the Human
Resource in line
with the changed
dynamics of the
environment. His
ability to get along
well with people has
been appreciated
time and again. He
is a proactive &
empowered
individual.
Mr. Mukhija has been
actively associated
with the relevant
industry and social
bodies and was the
President of Indian
Electrical &
Electronics
Manufacturers'
Association (IEEMA)
in 2002-03. He was
also the Chairman of
ELECRAMA 2002.
ELECRAMA exhibitions
are held once in two
years and are one of
the largest
exhibitions of its
kind. He is on the
Advisory council of
“Vinod Gupta School
of Management” at
IIT Kharagpur and
also the Managing
Trustee Board of
Vivekanand Education
Society's Institute
of Technology. He
was the Member of
National Advisory
Board of Power World
Expo 2003 & the
National Advisory
Council for Power
India 2003. He is a
regular guest
speaker in several
professional forums.
He regularly appears
in TV channels viz.,
CNBC, etc. on
topical subjects.
Lately he is in the
panels of various
intellectual forums
like Beijing World
CEO Forum, IIMA
Confluence, IITKGP
Kshitij etc.
Mr. Mukhija is a
